Falling in love

I was out the other day pottering with Radish in the local boo ti-queues when I walked into one and fell in love.  Kapow! There it was partly hidden, but hinting of walks along the beach. I immeadiately took it down off the wall and an old guy walked up beside me and said "Reckon that's Whitby way". I had been thinking exactly the same thing and as he voiced it I knew I had to have it. I love Whitby and all that coastline is soooo beautiful.

The photo doesnt really do it justice, it has a lovely creamy quality to it and has been worked in oils with both a brush and pallate knife. It is signed by Ken Johnson, but not dated and on the back is a little strip saying 'Morning Light Sandsend' so the stranger and I were right!

I was about to leave feeling very blessed when .... I saw this one:

I wasnt too sure about it but  it was also by the same artist, so I couldnt leave it behind. They might need each other. Stupid thought I know but that is what crossed my mind.

Anyhow I am pleased I did get it, it didnt have a name like the other one but it looked familiar and after a bit of research it turns out to be Robin Hoods bay which is just along the coast from Whitby.

I found a photo of Robin Hoods bay from 1900 that looks very similar to this as the modern photos have slightly different buildings on the right hand side but I reckon it is 50's early 60's though by the style of painting.

Not bad for £14 :-)

Colour wheels

I am totally in love with my new creation but am now stuck as I have run out of cotton and can't justify buying any more till next month.... so a little view of my gorgeous (if i do say so myself!) WIP.

However in my excitement I have left the tidying up instead of doing it as I went along.... EEEK!!!!!

Best get on with it until I can buy some more I suppose (dragging feet)

New Year, New Inspiration

As I quickly mentioned in my last post I bought some new cushions...

and was immediately inspired to order some new cotton...

Christmas was a bit green...

Happy New Year everyone. I hope a lovely holiday was had by all. We sadly didn't! The plans of mice and men come to nothing when up against the winter bug. We all fell to it one way or the other over what proved to be a not so festive period. However we rallied for opening of presents and Radish got some lovely toys from Santa and I took some inspiration from my new cushions...

We are all well now though and looking forward to a better year :-)

Blogging without obligation

I came across this little button on Marmaladerose's blog called 'Blogging without Obligation' and it struck a chord.

I started blogging with enjoyment but recently I have only felt guilt. Guilt that I havent done this or that; that I havent posted enough, that my life is boring and what should I write about etc - basically all the rubbish that I could do without. I have enough worry in my life without creating extra where there was none.

So as of today I promise:

✿ I will enjoy my time reading everyone elses lovely posts, and not spend that time thinking I should be writing my own - Some of us are writers and some of us are readers.

✿ I will not beat myself up that I just post when I can be bothered - because that is the truth. I hate it when things become chores and I dont want that to happen here.

✿ I will only post when I want to, not because I feel I should. I will let go of the 'my life is boring bit'. My life is normal and I'm happy with that, sometimes great things happen, sometimes not and most of the time life just goes along and is really not worth blogging about.

New blankie

As the weather closes in I am aware of keeping Radish warm and cosy but also about how much I dont really like the original blanket I made him. In fact every time I get it out I winch. Colour wise, I still like it but when I see how bad the crocheting was I knew I had to do a new one.

I did think about doing the same again but in cotton but on recieving my new stash ( messily displayed here with my new project) I decided I need new inspiration.

And I knew where to get it! Little Woolie to be exact! 

I hope I am doing this right and wont be upsetting her but I had to share  and I have linked it back ( well I think I have) but look at this.

Isnt it just the most beautiful thing? I love the colours and I intend to be brave and make one for me like it. ( I say brave as I tend to go tonal in my colours - bit scared of bright colours I think).

However in the meantime I am going to take inspiration from it and make a sampler blanket for Radish's little fingers to play with. 

So far only a few rows in but we'll get there...

Talking of getting there - We took Radish to his first firework display, so out came the snow suit and the new winter hat. Doest he look a cutie! Just have to make him alittle scarf now.
